WASHINGTON (April 3, 2019) – The following statement may be attributed to American Chemistry Council (ACC) President and CEO, Cal Dooley, in response to the potential closure of the U.S.-Mexico border:

“ACC and its members are concerned about the possibility that the United States may close our border with Mexico. Closing the Southern Border, even for one day, would have potentially catastrophic impacts for U.S. chemical manufacturing and U.S. economic security. A border closure would stop the flow of $78 million in chemical products that cross the U.S.-Mexico border every day. These products are critical inputs to U.S. manufacturing. Without them, the North American supply chain, which is heavily integrated, would virtually grind to a halt – lost production, lost jobs, and lost economic activity. All of North America – manufacturers, farmers, and families everywhere – would feel the impacts. We stand with our business and coalition partners in urging the President to work with Congress to find a better way to secure our borders.”
