Microplastics are poisoning our oceans, but the problem could be worse on land



Key points - i) Between 107,000-730,000 tonnes of microplastic are added to European and North American farmlands each year. ii) In 2017, Australia produced 327,000 tonnes of dry biosolids containing microplastics and 75 per cent of it was used in agriculture. iii) Researchers say there is a lack of public awareness and scientific understanding of the issue.
