The E-Commerce Directive is under review. Governments, courts and public opinion are demanding that internet firms police and prevent illegal material from being posted on their platforms. The European Commission is preparing a reform of the E-Commerce Directive – one aspect of its so-called new Digital Services Act.

The Digital Services Act, now in development, will determine a horizontal regulatory framework for online platforms, modernizing liability and safety standards for internet platforms and how they are to be regulated. New EU-wide standards for content moderation, advertising, information and data-sharing, and government oversight are in the purview of the DSA. As this discussion progresses, it is important to establish ideas and work to build consensus around what the correct framework for Collaborative Economy platforms could and should be.

The Digital Services Act will seek to address these new changes and challenges of digital platforms and services and bring the two-decade old E-Commerce Directive into the present.

This second Task Force meeting aims to discuss the future of the Digital Services Act and provide thought out proposals from business and academic perspectives for ensuring that this legislation moves forward in the most informed and productive way possible.

This meeting will open with a presentation by Prabhat Agarwal of DG CONNECT.

Registration and light lunch from 12.30 – Meeting from 13.00 to 16.00
