From 5 January 2022, the new rules for chemicals in tattoo colors and permanent make-up will apply throughout the EU. Colors must also be labeled with, among other things, ingredients in the ink.
In 2015, knowledge about the content of harmful chemicals in tattoo inks led to the preparation of a restriction proposal on a common European set of rules for chemicals in tattoo inks. The purpose of the proposal was partly the same consumer protection throughout the EU, and partly the same rules for the industry in the EU.
