INTRODUCTION - Hazaribagh is to the leather sector what Rana Plaza is to textiles and clothing*. Both are sad examples of how irresponsible attitudes, situations and circumstances can adversely affect people and businesses in fashion value chains. However, Bangladesh is not the only country blemishing the reputation of the textiles and leather sectors for high standards of workplace safety. Other low-cost countries supplying Global value chains with fashion materials, components or products are also contributing to a deteriorating image of the industry, due to the risks their workers endure day by day, in production facilities and working conditions that would not be allowed in our developed economies.
