A federal labeling loophole allows manufacturers to include dozens, even hundreds, of unlabeled, unregulated toxic fragrance ingredients in beauty and personal care products. This is dangerous.
You have a right to expect that the products you buy are safe. Ingredients linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and reproductive harms must be labeled so that we can make informed decisions about what we buy.
However, the vast and growing $70 billion global fragrance industry is wildly unregulated. No federal or state agency verifies the safety of fragrance chemicals, and there are no requirements for the fragrance industry to disclose their ingredients to consumers or regulatory agencies.
A new bill introduced by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) could close the fragrance labeling loophole that allows companies sell products full of undisclosed toxic chemicals. If our elected officials support this bill, they can swiftly reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals in personal care products.
Take action today to urge your US Representative to close the fragrance labeling loophole by co-sponsoring and supporting the Safe Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Act of 2018.
