Cefic says only 15% of plastic waste collected in the EU finds its way back into the EU plastic market and that chemical recycling is the key to tackling the plastic waste issue because it can treat waste that cannot be recycled mechanically. Chemical recycling is the only technology that can stop mixed or contaminated plastic waste from ending up in landfills or littering streets and waterways, Cefic says.
