Mexico drafts standards setting up Criteria for the exemption of ionizing radiation sources

The notified draft Standard applies to practices, ionizing radiation sources contained in consumer products and ionizing radiation sources involved in practices, which, due to their characteristics, may be exempted from all or some of the regulatory controls established by the National Commission on Nuclear Safety and Safeguards. The Standard does not apply to ionizing radiation-generating equipment used for medical diagnostic purposes; naturally occurring radioactive material; the transport of radioactive material; the importation or exportation of ionizing radiation sources; medical uses of ionizing radiation sources; the manufacture, acquisition, transfer, importation and/or exportation of radiopharmaceuticals; the administration of radioactive material to animals for diagnostic, treatment and/or research purposes; the manufacture, acquisition and transfer of ionizing radiation sources; contaminated objects or the final disposal, recycling or reuse of sources; or parts for ionizing radiation-generating equipment.
