On September 27, 2018, Food Packaging Forum and its research project partners published a report summarizing two case studies for prioritization of hazardous chemicals that are associated with plastic packaging. The Database of Chemicals associated with Plastic Packaging (CPPdb) was used as a primary data source for substances to be prioritized for further assessment of their impact on human health and the environment.
A four-step prioritization approach resulted in a list of five phthalates (BBP, DBP, DIBP, DEHP, dicyclohexyl phthalate) that shall now be assessed in detail for their impact on human health. With respect to environmental hazards, a seven-step prioritization process identified BBP as a priority substance for further assessment.
