From January 1, 2022, there will be a ban on plastic bags in Germany. Following the approval of the Bundestag, the Bundesrat allowed a corresponding amendment to the Packaging Act to pass. In future, light plastic bags with a wall thickness of 15 to 50 micrometers will no longer be allowed to circulate. In 2019, 1.49 billion lighter plastic bags were put into circulation in Germany.
