Clean Water Action: New Methane Rules are a Positive First Step

Washington DC -- Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released proposed rules to limit methane emissions from oil and gas production, processing and transmission infrastructure.

Clean Water Action National Special Projects Manager, Andrew Grinberg, issued the following statement:

“Until we transition away from oil and gas completely, we need the strongest possible rules to limit the harm to our climate and communities from this polluting industry. National limits on methane emissions from new and existing oil and gas infrastructure is a long overdue policy that is absolutely necessary to avert the worst impacts of climate change. The proposed rules are a positive first step which must now be strengthened to deliver deeper emissions reductions and to directly benefit frontline communities who have suffered far too long from living next to dirty fossil fuel infrastructure.”
