ECHA Advocates Enhanced Transparency in Hazardous Chemical Trade Regulations

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has issued recommendations for increased transparency in the trade of hazardous chemicals, particularly within the framework of the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Regulation, which governs the export and import of such substances.

ECHA's third report on the operation of the PIC Regulation highlights growing challenges in implementation, including an expanding list of chemicals subject to PIC, heightened public interest, and complex trade scenarios. To address these issues, ECHA proposes defining public access to export notifications, specifying information for annual reports, and improving regulation clarity through legal text amendments.

These recommendations are intended to make hazardous chemical trade more transparent and efficient.
