Mexico | Changes to the regulatory framework to guarantee the right to environmental justice

The process of reviewing the compendium of regulations of the General Law of Ecological Balance and Protection of the Environment will begin and they will begin with the regulations on the evaluation of environmental impact and that of national waters and, in this way, achieve greater participation of citizens.

Guadalupe Espinoza Sauceda, head of Semarnat's Coordinating Unit for Judicial Affairs, warned that the Secretariat's challenge is to stop being a simple paperwork agency to fulfill its regulatory role to ensure governance in the sector, which implies working to achieve a robust legal framework that guarantees the human right to a healthy environment, as reflected in Article 4 of the Constitution.
