Legal requirements for handling ship wastewater
The present study examines the legal requirements for the handling of ship waste water, focusing on the categories of scrubber waste water, ballast water and domestic waste water. The various legal levels are considered (maritime and international environmental law, European law, national law). Overlays and contradictions of the rights and obligations arising from the different legal levels are shown. The focus is on the question of whether and how the Federal Republic of Germany fulfills its obligations under international law and European law, and how the corresponding provisions have been integrated into the existing framework of national law.
