This draft Commission Implementing Regulation approves Alkyl (C12-16) dimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride (ADBAC/BKC (C12-C16)) as an existing active substance for use in biocidal products of product-type 2.

Product-type 2 refers to biocidal products that are used for disinfecting and controlling the growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses. These products are typically disinfectants and sanitizers designed for various applications, including:

  1. Hygiene Products: These are used for personal hygiene and include items like hand sanitizers, skin disinfectants, and products for oral and genital hygiene.

  2. Disinfectants: These are used to disinfect surfaces and objects in various settings such as hospitals, homes, and public spaces. Common examples include surface disinfectants, floor disinfectants, and disinfectant wipes.

  3. Preservatives: Some biocidal products in this category are used to preserve other products and prevent microbial contamination. For instance, preservatives in cosmetics, toiletries, and cleaning agents fall under this category.

  4. Veterinary Hygiene Products: These products are used in veterinary settings for disinfecting animal premises, equipment, and utensils.

  5. Food and Feed Area: Biocidal products used for disinfecting food and feed areas, including equipment and containers, also fall into this category.

In the proposal, the authorisation of biocidal products using ADBAC/BKC (C12-C16) as an active substance is subject to the following conditions:

(1) the product assessment shall pay particular attention to the exposures, the risks and the efficacy linked to any uses covered by an application for authorisation, but not addressed in the Union level risk assessment of the active substance;

(2) the product assessment shall pay particular attention to professional users.
