ACC EC Letter to Biden-Harris

Your substances

President-Elect Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris 1120 20th St. NW Washington, DC 20036
November 7, 2020

Dear President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris: Congratulations on your hard-fought election victory. We are excited to work with you as you confront the multitude of challenges facing our nation. You enter office at a uniquely precarious time in our history, one that at its outset will require rebuilding the fragile economy, managing through the COVID- 19 pandemic, and uniting and healing a bitterly divided people.

We write to tell you that you are not alone. We collectively represent the business of chemistry, an innovative, $565 billion enterprise that provides 544,000 skilled jobs, plus another 4.4 million related jobs, that support families and communities across America. Chemistry has been the backbone of the business community’s pandemic response. As COVID-19 has ravaged our nation, the men and women in our industry have given their communities everything they can give, working back-to-back shifts, repurposing business lines to manufacture protective equipment, creating new products and donating food, clothing and protective equipment to our first line responders. It is our responsibility to make sure their efforts are not wasted. As an industry built on innovation and a key driver of environmental progress and sustainability, we see change not as a threat but as an opportunity. We will commit to always being a constructive voice at the table providing our expertise so that we may rebuild our country together. Please accept our best wishes for the years ahead. We look forward to meeting with you and members of your Administration to discuss issues of mutual interest.
