The Canadian government has opened a public consultation period for the draft Federal Environmental Quality Guidelines concerning benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) substances. These guidelines, issued by the Minister of the Environment, aim to preserve and improve the quality of the environment. They have been developed in accordance with the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, and are now available for review on the Canada.ca (Chemical substances) website.

During the consultation period, which lasts for 60 days  The public consultation aims to gather diverse perspectives and expertise in order to ensure the guidelines effectively address the environmental impact of BTEX substances.
