Climate change – new rules to prevent methane leakage in the energy sector

Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas, second only to CO2. Addressing it is critical to slowing global warming.

Given the impact of methane emissions on the climate, the Commission is developing an EU strategy to prevent methane leaks in the energy sector.

The strategy will:

(*) include binding rules on monitoring, reporting, verification, leak detection and repair in the energy sector in 2021

(*) support the EU’s greater climate ambition for 2030 and its 2050 climate neutrality objective.CONTINUE
