The newly release ISO standard 3758:2023 establishes a standardized system of graphic symbols for marking textile articles, providing information on the most severe treatments that do not cause irreversible damage during textile care.

The primary objective of this update is to enhance alignment with GINETEX symbols. GINETEX symbols, also known as care symbols or laundry symbols, are a set of standardized icons used in textile care labeling to convey instructions for the maintenance and care of textile products. GINETEX, the International Association for Textile Care Labeling, is the organization responsible for developing and promoting these symbols globally. These symbols provide information about various aspects of textile care, including washing, bleaching, drying, ironing, and professional cleaning.

It is applicable to all textile articles, excluding non-removable covers of upholstered furniture, non-removable covers of mattresses, and carpets and rugs requiring professional carpet cleaning due to specific cleaning processes not covered in this document.

The graphical symbols offer care information to end users, covering domestic treatments such as washing, bleaching, drying, and ironing.

Professional textile care treatments in dry and wet cleaning, excluding industrial laundering and professional carpet cleaning, are also included. Although primarily intended for end users, the information conveyed by domestic symbols is recognized to be helpful for professional cleaners and launderers.

Industrial laundering symbols are addressed separately in ISO 30023.
