Overview

The nineteenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee of the Rotterdam Convention will take place from 3 to 6 October 2023 in Rome, Italy, back to back with the nineteenth meeting of the Persistent Organic Pollutants Review Committee of the Stockholm Convention.

At its nineteenth meeting, the Committee will consider draft decision guidance documents for methyl bromide and paraquat.
Additionally, in line with the procedures for banned or severely restricted chemicals (Article 5, paragraphs 5 and 6), the Committee will review the following notifications of final regulatory action forwarded by the Secretariat, in accordance to the criteria set out in Annex II to the Convention:

Due to a high workload of notifications of final regulatory action to be reviewed by the Chemical Review Committee, the Bureau prioritized the work of the Committee. Notifications for the above-listed chemicals will be considered by the Committee at its nineteenth meeting, together with notifications whose consideration has not been completed at the eighteenth meeting. Additional notifications of final regulatory action awaiting review by the Chemical Review Committee will be considered at a future meeting of the Committee. Originally, the intersessional work included the review of notifications of final regulatory action for brodifacoum. Following the withdrawal by one Party of its notification, the Committee only has before it one notification of final regulatory action from one Prior Informed Consent region for this chemical, which has consequently been removed from the provisional agenda of the nineteenth meeting of the Chemical Review Committee.
