European Commission's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Initiative: upcoming public consultation on product priorities

The Commission’s recent proposal on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products aims to make products sold in the EU more sustainable, by setting performance and information-related requirements on them. To set priorities in a transparent and inclusive way, the Commission intends to launch a public consultation on the categories of new products and measures on which priority action should be taken. The public consultation will invite feedback on which categories of products and measures should be prioritized for action.

While the public consultation was originally planned to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2022, the official launch date is still pending and marked as "upcoming". The ultimate goal of the initiative is to adopt final proposals in the first quarter of 2024, taking into account feedback received during the public consultation.
