With the aim of better consumer protection and information, the Ministry of Agriculture drafted the Ordinance amending the Ordinance on informing consumers about non-prepacked food published in the Official Gazette (No. 64/20 ) on 29 May 2020. Amendments to the existing Ordinance on informing consumers about non-prepacked food from 2014 were made in order to better inform consumers by providing them with additional information on non-prepacked food.
Mandatory application of the provisions of the Ordinance is from 6 June 2020, except for the provision on mandatory labeling of the country of origin or place of origin of fresh, chilled and frozen pork, sheep and goat meat and poultry meat and the provision that food packaged at the point of sale is prepackaged for direct sale, must be labeled and at the time of delivery with the least information on substances and products that cause allergies or intolerances, "use by" the date and name of the food. A transition period of 1 January 2021 is foreseen for them in order for food business operators responsible for non-prepacked food information to align their business with the new requirements.
