The Minutes Of The 16th Meeting Of The Working Group On Specifications Of Food Additives includes the following scientific topic(s) for discussion:

4.1. Re-evaluation of calcium carbonate (E 170) as a food additive in foods for infants below 16 weeks of age (EFSA-Q-2018-00088)

Information submitted by the interested business operators was evaluated and the Working Group considered that additional data and clarifications would be needed to proceed with the assessment.

4.2. Technical hearing with an interested party in relation to the Reevaluation of silicon dioxide (E 551) as a food additive in foods for infants below 16 weeks of age (EFSA-Q-2018-00526)

Upon request from EFSA, the interested party was given the opportunity to clarify the data submitted previously to EFSA. The interested party presented its approach for the characterisation of the food additive. WG members provided their opinion regarding the presented approach. After the hearing was finished, and the hearing experts left the teleconference, the Working Group discussed the clarifications provided by the industry.
