The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has issued a call for comments and evidence regarding the screening report on the presence and risk of four phenolic benzotriazoles in articles. Interested parties are invited to provide their input and express their views and concerns on the draft screening report.

The four substances in question, UV-328, UV-327, UV-350, and UV-320, are commonly used in various consumer products. These substances belong to the group of phenolic benzotriazoles, which are widely employed as ultraviolet (UV) light stabilizers and absorbers. They are commonly found in products such as plastics, coatings, adhesives, sealants, textiles, and rubber materials. Phenolic benzotriazoles provide protection against the degradation caused by UV radiation, extending the lifespan and preserving the appearance of the products. However, due to potential risks associated with these substances, their presence and usage are being assessed through the screening report by ECHA.

The consultation period began on May 31, 2023, and interested parties have until August 18, 2023, to submit their comments and evidence. The feedback received will contribute to the development of Annex XV REACH restriction dossiers or other relevant documents.
