This workshop, organised by INERIS in collaboration with the French Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition, aims to bring together actors from the textile sector, as well as civil society stakeholders, in order to promote exchanges on the challenges, obstacles and drivers of chemical substitution in this sector. It will also be an opportunity to communicate on the needs and availability of alternatives, and to report on the industrial implementation of alternative solutions.
Note that the language of the workshop will be French.

Workshop on substituting problematic chemicals, 30-31 January 2020, Vienna
The workshop will introduce the latest developments in EU substitution policy and show what this can mean for businesses. Matchmaking slots and three thematic discussion groups will be arranged:

Online training on analysis of alternatives
During the online course, participants will learn how to make informed chemicals management decisions when substituting hazardous substances. The training is structured as follows:
Introduction: the case for informed substitution and an introduction to the training series.
Session 1: Scoping the assessment – defining the goals and decision rules.
Session 2: Identifying and screening alternatives – introducing useful resources for identifying a range of alternatives for further evaluation.
Session 3: Hazard and exposure – assessing hazards, intrinsic properties and exposure.
Session 4: Cost and technical performance – identifying and assessing essential performance and quality criteria and costs.
Session 5: Making and implementing decisions – looking at tools which can help compare alternatives and reviewing important considerations for implementing the results of the assessment.
The course will be subscription based but free-of-charge, meaning that there is a limited number of participants who can take the course simultaneously.
