On 1 September, IMCO will consider a draft legislative opinion by Antonius Manders (EPP) to ENVI on the new batteries regulation.

IMCO is associated under Rule 57 of the Rules of Procedure with exclusive competence on certain provisions. The proposal was presented by the Commission on 10 December 2020, as part of the Circular Economy Action Plan, to replace the current EU legislative framework for waste batteries. In his draft opinion, the Rapporteur stresses the need for strict enforcement of a level playing field, high environmental and social standards, in particular through supply chain due diligence rules for all batteries, as well as stronger guarantees for transparency and consumer information. The deadline for amendments is set for 15 September and the vote in IMCO scheduled on 9 December 2021.
