Undecafluorohexanoic acid and its inorganic salts are be used in the manufacture of polymers and plastics products, including in electronics, and automotive industries. These substances are also commonly used as surface modifiers and adhesion promoters in various industrial applications, including adhesives, paints, and coatings.
Due to their reproductive toxicity, Germany has proposed to classify them as reproductive toxicant (Repro 1B).
The proposal was submitted to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on September 20, 2022. The proposal is currently undergoing a consultation period, which started on May 2, 2023, and will end on July 3, 2023. Interested parties can provide their feedback and comments. The ECHA will review the comments and prepare a final opinion on the proposal.
The legal deadline for adopting the opinion is October 10, 2024.
