A new initiative has been launched under the umbrella of the German Alliance for Sustainable Textiles in a bid to clean up wastewater pollution in the textile supply chain with a specific focus on Taiwan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, China, Pakistan and Turkey.

Thirteen members have come together to form the new alliance including brands and retailers such as Kik, Aldi, Takko, Orsay, Oeko-Tex, Bluesign, the ZDHC and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development along with the German Environment Agency and several industry associations.

The new initiative stems from a previous project run by the German Alliance for Sustainable Textiles on chemical and environmental management which expired this year – and had a wider focus.

This new wastewater project has a two-year timeline, being slated to run until July 2022.
