OEKO-TEX® Updates to Test Criteria, Limit Values, and Sustainability Standards for Certifications effective from April 1, 2023

OEKO-TEX® is a global testing and certification system for textiles, as well as a label for textile products that have been tested for harmful substances and found to be safe for human use. At the start of the year, as usual, it updated the applicable test criteria and limit values for its range of certifications. The updates will take effect on April 1, 2023, after a three-month transition period.

OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 - Link

This update includes the removal of certain substances from observation, new additions to the limit value catalogue and changes to the Perfluorinated compounds (PFAS) based on recent EU regulations. The substances and their limit values are available here.

OEKO-TEX® LEATHER STANDARD - Link

Changes include the removal of certain substances from observation, additions to the limit value catalogue, and changes in limit values for certain chemicals, such as SCCP & MCCP, PFAS, PFOA and perfluorinted compounds

OEKO-TEX® STeP - Link

The updated OEKO-TEX® STeP include a new lifecycle assessment solution called Impact Calculator to measure carbon and water footprint of processes and materials/products. A new app called BHive, developed by GoBlu International, has been introduced to allow companies to collect information about their chemical products used on site and determine which products meet the sustainability requirements of many brands/retailers. Sustainability criteria in STeP Standard has been reinforced, including new exclusion criteria for chemical management and environmental performance. These updates take effect on April 1, 2023 after a three-month transition period.
