EU Commissioners outline 2020 plans on EDCs in response to EDC-Free Europe letter

Signed by the two EU Commissioners responsible for moving forward with this major public health file, the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Commissioner and the Health and Food Safety Commissioner, the letter also announces that the results of the EDC "fitness check" should be available at the end of the first semester 2020, and will be discussed during the 2nd Annual Forum on Endocrine Disruptors scheduled for October 2020.

In December 2019, EDC-Free Europe expressed concerns that endocrine disruptors did not appear in a first draft of the European Green Deal. The final version of the Green Deal, that was published later that month, commits to a new chemicals strategy for sustainability by June 2020 and which will include action for the regulatory framework to “rapidly reflect scientific evidence on the risk posed  by endocrine disruptors”.

As part of the fitness check, the European Commission has opened a public consultation and invited the public to share their views on improvements needed for better protection against and information about endocrine disrupting chemicals  by March 9th
