In the report "Effects of glyphosate on the intestinal microbiota", researchers from the DTU Food Institute and the Department of Environmental Science, Aarhus University, describe the effects of glyphosate on intestinal bacteria. The researchers investigated whether glyphosate and a herbicide containing glyphosate as the active ingredient inhibit intestinal bacteria. Many intestinal bacteria have an enzyme that is inhibited by glyphosate. Inhibiting the enzyme can lead to deficient formation of three important amino acids (tyrosine, tryptophan and phenylalanine) in the bacteria.
