This is the first report of the mandate to the UN General Assembly since the establishment of the mandate in 1995 by the former Commission on Human Rights. Over the years, the mandate has evolved through successive resolutions of the Human Rights Council to examine the impacts of hazardous substances and wastes throughout their lifecycle, from extraction to production, use, emission and final disposal. The mandate has examined issues of both occupational health and environmental health perspectives. The most recent reports of the current mandate holder to the Human Rights Council are summarized below.
