Canada has permitted the manufacture or import of the substance 1-hexanol, 2-ethyl-, reaction products with 1,6-diisocyanatohexane , CAS 197393-84-3, subject to strict conditions. The substance is suspected to be toxic or capable of becoming toxic, so Canada is taking steps to protect the environment and human health.

The conditions include a ban on using the substance in consumer products, a requirement to notify the Minister of the Environment of any releases to the environment, and a requirement to keep records of the use and transfer of the substance.

The Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA) gives the Minister of the Environment the authority to take action to protect the environment and human health from toxic substances. Ministerial conditions are one of the tools that the Minister can use to manage risks posed by toxic substances.
