ENVI members will also vote on the recommendation for the second reading on the minimum requirements for the reuse of treated waste water (also called 'reclaimed water'). On 28 May 2018, the Commission put forward a legislative proposalseeking to incentivise the reuse of treated waste water (also called 'reclaimed water'), while ensuring a high level of protection of health and the environment. The proposal aims to contribute to alleviating water scarcity in the EU by increasing water reuse, which remains below its potential. To do so, the proposal seeks to ensure that reclaimed water is safe for its intended use. The Council and the European Parliament have reached an agreement at early second reading on the minimum requirements for the reuse of waste water, among others in terms of its quality, soil contamination in relation to compliance checks, definition of sanctions by Member States for non- compliance and risk management. The final text agreed will be voted by ENVI members via remote voting procedure as a single vote.
