On 16 November the ENVI Committee will hold an exchange of views with Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food safety, on EU preparedness and resilience in the field of public health. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed a number of shortcomings in the EU’s health crisis response and highlighted the need for increased cooperation and coordination at EU level.

The package includes a proposal on tackling serious cross-border health threats and proposals to change the mandates of the ECDC and EMA, improving their capacities to contribute to crisis preparedness and response. The Commissioner will also provide Members with some insights into the upcoming Pharmaceutical Strategy, scheduled to be published on 30 November.
