On 9 December, IMCO will vote on the draft opinion on the proposal for a Regulation concerning batteries and waste batteries.

The Rapporteur, Mr Antonius Manders (EPP), tabled 12 overarching compromise amendments, covering the whole text within IMCO exclusive and shared competences. The Rapporteur and the Shadow Rapporteurs shared the view that a robust and future-proof legislative framework for batteries, in line with the Circular Economy Action Plan, is key to avoid the market fragmentations and information failures currently experienced in the EU. The compromise text aims therefore to strengthen the environmental, social and information requirements needed to place batteries on the Union market, ensuring a level playing field for economic operators and transparency for consumers.
