Restriction of Methyl Bromide (MeBr) Fumigation Applications for Re-Export of Products
Description
Due to its negative effect on the ozone layer, efforts are being made to reduce and completely terminate the usage of Methyl bromide (MeBr). Türkiye became a party to the Montreal Protocol on 19 December 1991 and accepted all amendments of the Protocol to date.In order to reduce the usage of MeBr, which is among the ozone depleting substances under the Montreal Protocol, the Regulation on Reducing the Use of Methyl Bromide in Agriculture has been published in Türkiye on 23 June 2000.Considering the risks of MeBr on human and environmental health, in order to reduce the use of MeBr, "Fumigation application with MeBr for products to be re-exported is prohibited" as of 1 April 2024.
