The Canadian Department of the Environment and Department of Health have published a draft assessment of 16 substances within the Gas Oils and Kerosenes group used in consumer products, pursuant to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA). The assessment suggests that these substances meet the criteria for toxicity as outlined in section 64 of CEPA.
The Ministers of the Environment and Health propose to recommend that these substances be added to Part 2 of Schedule 1 of CEPA. A risk management scope document has been released to initiate discussions with stakeholders on potential risk management measures.
Stakeholders and the public are invited to submit written comments within 60 days of this notice. Comments should address the proposed measures and the underlying scientific considerations. Confidentiality requests can be made in accordance with section 313 of CEPA.
