The Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (Inventory) is set to undergo a variation in the terms of listing for two substances, 2-methoxyethyl methacrylate and 2-ethoxyethyl methacrylate

These substances are commonly used in various industrial applications, particularly in the field of polymer and resin production.

This modification introduces an obligation for specific information disclosure to the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) concerning these chemicals. The decision to vary the Inventory listing was based on AICIS's evaluation under Part 4 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, with the final evaluation statement published on December 14, 2023, following public consultation.

The Executive Director of AICIS determined that the variation is necessary to effectively manage the risks associated with the introduction of these chemicals. The specific information requirements include details such as the chemical's volume of introduction, use, and end use, with obligations to provide this information within 20 working days. This applies particularly to instances where the chemical is introduced for consumer end use, excluding articles. The variation is scheduled to take effect on February 29, 2024.
