PFOA breaks down very slowly in nature and are found in many parts of the world, including in the Arctic. The substance has been detected in blood and breast milk. The minister has issued a ban which comes into force on 1 June 2014. For some applications, the deadline is 2016 to give industry time to adapt. |
With the introduction of the ban on PFOA, Norway introduces a stricter regulation compared to EU.
PFOA can occur in a variety of products that surround ourselves every day. Painting, textiles, waxes and pans are examples of consumer products that may contain PFOA. The substance has also been found in clothing for children.
