Who does the secondary notification apply to?
All persons who manufacture or import the chemical and products containing the chemical for use in brake fluid formulations.
The original assessments assessed the use of this chemical, imported as a component of finished brake fluid products for the after-care market (vehicle service stations or the public). Based on the data available at that time, the chemical was not classified as hazardous to human health or the environment.
Reasons for secondary notification
Secondary Notification is required as a new developmental toxicity study is now available that was not available at the time of the assessment as a new chemical. Based on the developmental toxicity study, the notified chemical may be classified as a hazardous substance. Therefore, a reassessment of the human health hazard and risks for the chemical is required.
