Rapid Alert System for dangerous products | RAPEX weekly Report 17 November 2017

The Rapid Alert System enables quick exchange of information between 31 European countries and the European Commission about dangerous non-food products posing a risk to health and safety of consumers. The Commission publishes every week an overview of the alerts reported by the national authorities, which include information on the dangerous products found, the risks identified and the measures taken in the notifying country in order to prevent or restrict their marketing or use. This is an extract of alerts related to chemical risks:

• Ashimmer - Duck.  The plastic material of the bath toy contains di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value: 14.8% by weight) and di-(2-butyl) phthalate (DBP) (measured value: 1.99% by weight). These phthalates may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to the reproductive system. Measures taken by economic operators: Withdrawal of the product from the market (By: Distributor). Country of origin: China. Alert submitted by: Portugal. Risk level: Serious.

• Cherish Animal - Bath Toys. The plastic material of the toy contains di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value: 51.0 % by weight) and di-(2-butyl) phthalate (DBP) (measured value: 0.357% by weight). These phthalates may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to the reproductive system. • BiTЭKC - ROSKOŠNOJE PITANIJE „Argan i Mindal“. According to the labelling, the product contains Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and Methylisothiazolinone (MI). Dermal contact with MCI/MI-containing products can provoke allergic contact dermatitis to sensitised persons. Measures ordered by public authorities (to: Distributor): Ban on the marketing of the product and any accompanying measures. • MARBERT - 24H AQUA BOOSTER 03 Medium. The label indicates that the product contains the preservative Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI). Dermal contact with MCI-containing products can provoke allergic contact dermatitis to sensitised persons. In addition, isobutylparaben, which has a potential endocrine disrupting activity, is contained in the product according to the list of ingredients. • SHUN SONG - Baboliy. The plastic material of the doll contains di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value: 0.2471% by weight).This phthalate may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to the reproductive system. It contains also di-isononyl phthalate (measured value: 0.428 % by weight) and di-isodeciylphthalate (DiDP) (measured value: 0.1031% by weight). • My Baby. The plastic material of the doll contains di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value: 25.9%). • JUMBO - The plastic material of the doll contains Bisphenol A  (measured value: 0.178 mg/l). Bisphenol A is toxic for reproduction. • Eternal Ink - Deep Red. The product contains the aromatic amine o-anisidine (measured value 26 mg/kg). Aromatic amines can cause cancer, cell mutations and affect reproduction. • DOIPHIN. The plastic material of the toy contains bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value: 19.8% by weight) and dibutyl-phthalate (DBP) (measured value: 0.228% by weight). These phthalates may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to the reproductive system. It also contains di-isononyl phthalate (measured value: 4.7 % by weight). • Franga Toys. The toy contains bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value: 3.25% by weight) and di-isononyl phthalate (DINP) (measured value: 34% by weight). • Golden Palm Ent Inc - Bike Repair Kit. The glue contains  Toluene  (24.3 % by weight) and  1,2-dichloroethane  (66.4 % by weight). Toluene and 1,2- dichloroethane are carcinogenic and toxic if inhaled or if they get in contact with the skin. • MARBERT - 24H AQUA BOOSTER. The product contains Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI). Dermal contact with MCI-containing products can provoke allergic contact dermatitis to sensitised persons. The cream also contains isobutylparaben, as indicated in the list of ingredients on the packaging. This paraben has a potential endocrine disrupting activity. • DISNEY - Colored Scented Pencils. The pencils contain an excessive amount of lead (measured value: 22.1 mg/kg). A child using the pencils could put one in his/her mouth and suck on it and then the lead would enter the child’s body. Exposure to lead can result in severe and irreversible neuro-behavioural and neuro-developmental effects to which children are particularly sensitive.
