EU SCCS 6th Plenary Meeting Highlights: Focus on Cosmetic Ingredients and Nanomaterials

The 6th Plenary Meeting of the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) convened on 26 October 2023. New requests and mandates from DG GROW were deferred due to time constraints, with topics such as Ethylhexyl MethoxycinnamateHydroxyapatite submission IV (nano) and new coatings for Titanium Dioxide (nano) slated for discussion in upcoming Working Group meetings. The meeting also saw the adoption of final opinions on substances like Zn salts-Submission II (exposure), Benzyl Salicylate, and Butyl Paraben in the Working Group on cosmetic ingredients.

In addition, the Scientific Committee delved into draft opinions, approving preliminary assessments on substances like Hair dye A 165 (submission II) and Hexyl Salicylate for public commentary. The WG on nanomaterials finalized an opinion on Fullerenes and hydroxy/hydrated-hydroxy derivatives (nano).

The WG on Methodology addressed revisions to the SCCS Notes of Guidance and introduced factsheets on SCCS (nano) Guidance documents. 

The next hybrid plenary meetings are scheduled for 27 March and 20 June 2024.
