Although the fashion industry is one of the highest money-making industries in the world, it is also one of the most harmful when it comes to contaminating and wasting environmental resources. Believe it or not, the fashion industry actually has the power to change the environment if people start shopping in an eco-friendly way. Sustainable fashion is the idea of using sustainable materials or fabrics to create a garment. As an advocate of sustainable fashion, shopping for vintage items or buying clothes that have been recycled into something new also falls under the umbrella. The practice of sustainable fashion is starting to create buzz because major brands in the industry are starting to realize that the materials that are being used to make clothes are destroying the earth in some shape or form. This year London Fashion Week created a snowball effect of the sustainable fashion trend when they announced that designers are no longer allowed to showcase real fur on the catwalk. Several brands have made the decision to go fur-free including Gucci, Versace, Burberry, and Michael Kors.
