Berlin, February 28, 2024 : German Environmental Aid (DUH) sees today's EU Council decision against the EU supply chain law as a catastrophic defeat for the protection of human rights, the environment and the climate. The FDP had negotiated the draft law in Brussels and then refused its consent in the last few meters.
DUH Federal Managing Director Sascha Müller-Kraenner comments :
“ Today is a black day for human rights, the environment and the climate. The FDP's sabotage attitude and its massive influence on other member states have led to the failure of the EU supply chain law in the EU Council. This is the nail in the coffin for a central project for greater human rights, social justice and environmental regulations in supply chains. The smallest coalition partner sabotaged the agreement on the law and pressured other member states in the last few meters to prevent an important decision for Europe. By abstaining, Chancellor Scholz has impotently submitted to the FDP's blockade stance and thus shrugged off Germany's loss of credibility as a negotiating partner at the EU level. “
