Korea Proposes amendments to the "Regulation on Safety Standards of Cosmetics"

The amendments seek to: 

1) Prohibit the use of certain chemicals in cosmetics

A. nitromethane , atranol, chloroatranol, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde (HICC), methylene glycol

B. Chemicals that are designated as 'prohibited substances' under the Article 2(9) of the Act on Registration, Evaluation, etc. of Chemicals

2) Adopt the measures restricting the use of preservatives

A. Lower the limit values of 4 preservatives

B. Prohibit the use of sodium lauroyl sarcosinate in products that contain amines or amides

3) Improve testing methods for ensuring safety in cosmetics: methanol testing and Microbiological testing

4) Clarify or modify terms in the regulation
