The latest version of the Proposition 65 list, released on December 29, 2023, includes Bisphenol S (BPS).
BPS is commonly used as a substitute for bisphenol A (BPA) in various products. BPS is often found in plastics, thermal paper products, and certain consumer goods. It has been used in the manufacturing of items such as:
Thermal Paper: BPS is commonly used in thermal paper for receipts, tickets, and labels, serving as a substitute for BPA, which has raised concerns regarding its potential health effects.
Plastic Products: Similar to BPA, BPS is used in the production of some plastics. It can be found in food and beverage containers, water bottles, and other plastic items.
Epoxy Resins: BPS may also be used in the production of epoxy resins, which are commonly used as coatings in some food and beverage cans to prevent corrosion and contamination.
It's important to note that while BPS has been used as an alternative to BPA, concerns about its potential health effects have also been raised. Research is ongoing to understand the safety of BPS and other bisphenol compounds. As awareness grows, some manufacturers may choose alternative materials to address consumer concerns.
