The European Union (EU) has introduced a proposal for a regulation to implement a voluntary digital labelling system for EU fertilising products. The initiative aims to enhance the communication of labelling information and boost the cost-effectiveness and overall competitiveness of the EU fertilisers industry.

According to the proposal, the digital labelling system would provide an efficient and transparent way for stakeholders to access important information about fertilisers, including their composition, intended use, and environmental impact. This would enable consumers and farmers to make informed decisions when purchasing and using fertilisers.

The EU's public consultation period for the proposal will be open from 3 April to 29 May 2023, during which stakeholders can provide feedback and comments. The European Commission has also provided an Inception Impact Assessment report on its website.

The proposed regulation is expected to bring significant benefits to the EU fertilisers industry by improving the traceability of products and enhancing the efficiency of the supply chain. The EU hopes that this initiative will set a new standard for the global fertilisers market and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
