The fourteenth meeting of the Basel Convention Implementation and Compliance Committee (ICC-14) will be held online from 29 June to 3 July 2020, followed by supplementary sessions tentatively scheduled for 21-24 September 2020, convened either in Geneva, or, if this is not possible, online.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Switzerland as well as globally, it is not feasible to organize ICC-14 as initially planned as a face-to-face meeting in Geneva, from 26 to 30 June 2020.
The Committee is expected to consider 19 specific submissions, general issues of implementation and compliance, and its draft 2022-2023 work programme.
With respect to the specific submissions, the Committee is expected to continue its consideration of four existing submissions, including two by the Secretariat regarding difficulties with national reporting by Bhutan and Liberia, and two Party self-submissions by Central African Republic and Togo regarding their difficulties with the development of legal frameworks implementing the Basel Convention. The Committee is also expected to consider for the first time 15 submissions by the Secretariat, including 14 submissions concerning possible difficulties with national reporting by Bahamas, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cook Islands, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Mauritania, Nauru, Niger, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sudan, Syria, Turkmenistan, and one submission concerning possible difficulties by Sao Tome with the designation of one or more competent authorities.
