CFA have maintained that no chemicals found their way into local drains, following a spill at Deakin University today. A shelf at the CSIRO lab collapsed around 1:40pm, spilling a large amount of the volatile chemical acrylonitrile.

Thankfully, staff who were wearing protective suits contained the incident before CFA arrived. Emergency crews remain on scene tonight to clear the spill, with the contents to then be disposed of by the CSIRO. There is currently no threat to the public.
